Review of the Fjord Inc. Static Edge Rope Protection
Fjord Inc. has designed a great product for protecting your static rope, in either an outdoor or an industrial setting. I had the opportunity to test these edge protectors while developing some new rock climbing routes. The top of rock climbing cliffs are often very dirty and covered with either loose or sharp rock.
The STREP rope edge protection worked incredibly well, to protect my rope as I rappelled down to work on the cliff face below.
The rope stayed in place, as did the loose rock and dirt that was under the edge protection. This made it more pleasant and safe to work while hanging on the rope. My rope stayed clean and did not get chaffed by the sharp rock.
Both the Edge-Pro (velcro rope wrap) and Edge-Mat worked very well. I attached them to my static rope using the included yellow cord to attach a 2 wrap prussik hitch on my rope, and tying the cord through one of the loops that are sewn on the corners of both products.
I highly recommend these products, as they protect your rope very well. This will increase the life of your rope, and add additional safety when you are working on rope. I will be using these rope edge protectors whenever I am developing rock climbing routes or working on rope in an industrial setting.
